Bell Helicopter Model 407 Engine Barrier Filter, Part Numbers 106000-101 and 106000-103

The AFS Bell 407 Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) provides the optimum performance possible within the existing Bell cowling, utilizing a single forward-facing barrier filter with a side access door for ease of maintenance. The single flat filter assembly is mounted just left of the aircraft’s bifurcated engine air inlet system in the same location and in lieu of the Engine Air Particle Separator (EAPS) or Air Induction Screen (FOD Screen). The IBF installation requires minimal modifications to the existing air inlet cowl assembly without impacting the integrity of Bell’s forward firewall. An access panel on the right side of the air inlet cowl allows the operator quick access to the filter for servicing without removal of the cowl. Engine water wash provisions are provided with the new IBF and function the same as the original Bell system; the filter does not require removal to perform the water wash. A self contained bypass system is provides with a cockpit annunciation and activation switch along with a Filter Maintenance Aid (FMA) for on condition monitoring of filter condition. The AFS IBF system provides dust, sand, and dirt separation efficiencies exceeding 99% to assure your engine has the maximum protection possible.

AFS commercial products for applicable Bell model helicopters are available direct from AFS, through our distributor network, or as a factory direct option on the Bell 407.

MD Helicopters Incorporated Model MD900/902 Inlet Barrier Filter,
Part Number 114001-101

Aerospace Filtration Systems (AFS) introduces a unique Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) system for the MD Helicopters MD900/902 Explorer. Using technology fielded and proven on commercial and military helicopters, the AFS MD900/902 IBF provides the optimum performance possible utilizing the existing MDHI cowling and features an innovative, lightweight, simple to install replacement for the Inlet Particle Separator (IPS) or FOD Screen. The AFS IBF system provides dust, sand, and dirt separation efficiencies exceeding 99% to ensure your engine has the maximum protection possible. At the same time, the IBF improves air flow versus the IPS, meaning more power, reduced operating temps and longer engine life. Performance improvements in the aircraft yield approximately 20 degrees more MGT margin compared to the IPS. These filters can be removed and replaced in 15 minutes, allowing easy maintenance in the field. AFS design utilizes the existing MDHI bypass system, which is part of the IPS modification. Filters do not require removal to perform the engine water wash regimens. They come standard with a sturdy conformal inlet cover for added protection during non-operating conditions. This IBF system is available as a factory direct option on the MD900/902 Explorer. If the aircraft is not equipped with the MDHI bypass system, contact MDHI for possible options.

Bell Helicopter Model 206L-3/4 and Bell 206L-1 (C30) Inlet Barrier Filter,
Part Number 106000-105

The Bell 206L-3/4 IBF system is identical to the highly successful Bell 407 model IBF in construction and performance with a few minor electrical system changes to accommodate the L-3/4 electrical system. This system offers a single forward-facing barrier filter assembly just aft of the bifurcated engine inlet in the same location and in lieu of the Engine Air Particle Separator (EAPS) or FOD Screen. As with the Bell 407, modification to the airframe is minimal. A filter access door is standard equipment on this model IBF.

The filter is designed to reduce engine MGT to allow for more margin when and where you need it. The filtration efficiency of an AFS IBF is 99.3% compared to an EAPS at much less filtration efficiency. And an EAPS robs critical engine power and increases MGT lowering operational capability and increasing cost of operation.
