Local Happenings

AFS's Paul M. Ross, Jr. participated in a great charity event along with other Eureka Fire District firefighters on June 19, 2008, along with over 12 other local fire depts. Paul is a volunteer fire fighter for the Eureka Fire District.

They assisted with the Muscular Dystrophy Assn’s kids camp in nearby Babler Park. These are some great kids, dealing with some very difficult physical conditions. The camp occurs annually and brings many kids together in a great outdoor setting, and the fire departments participate each year with trucks and games.

The American Legion Boys State of Missouri, Inc.

The American Legion Missouri Boys State Memorial Trust, Inc. was created in 1982 to assist and perpetuate The American Legion Boys State of Missouri program and to provide a mechanism to receive donations. The success of The American Legion Missouri Boys State Memorial Trust depends on corporate and personal donations and gifts.

The American Legion Boys State of Missouri provides young men with a broad understanding of the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship and a better understanding of how our government works. It is expected that each citizen will take the ideas and knowledge he has gained through Missouri Boys State and apply them in his own high school and community.

During the week of Boys State, citizens participate in a wide variety of educational and recreational activities and hear inspirational talks from both state and national leaders. Many of the nationally known speakers who appear at Missouri Boys State are funded by the Trust. In addition, the Trust assists with registration fees for eligible citizens and college scholarship funds. The Trust also funds a small portion of Boys State recruiting and administrative costs and various special projects, which enhance the Boys State experience.
