AFS was selected as a direct subcontractor by Bell Helicopter Textron to design, develop and produce the Engine Barrier Filter (EBF) system for the U.S. Army OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter. This system posed many challenges and required full military qualification testing.

Currently in full production, these systems have been fielded and are operating on mission ready aircraft. Desert operations have substantiated the design and its benefits to the Kiowa Warrior weapons system. A combat proven system, the OH-58D EBF is supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. To date no aircraft in theater equipped with an AFS EBF systems has experienced an engine loss due to erosion. Engines are actually reaching scheduled time between overhaul (TBO) while operating in the harsh Iraqi desert. This is a true testament to the value of the barrier filter system even under the most severe operating conditions.

In the history of the U.S. Army, this is the first high performance barrier filtration system fully integral into the aircraft and fielded on the entire operating fleet (over 375 aircraft).
